Il Gruppo Tumar Art è stato istituito nel 1998 per preservare e sviluppare la cultura materiale ed  artistica del popolo Kirghiso, attraverso la creazione e la promozione di una moderna e funzionale  azienda, ma con lavorazioni artigianali di alta qualità, prodotti a base ecologica, tradizionali e  nuove tecnologie di produzione. La società ha sede a Bishkek (Kirghizistan), con più di 200 artisti  ed operatori del feltro, tessuti e ceramiche, che là creano e lavorano. Il gruppo di Tumar Art lavora  anche a stretto contatto con studi di design e designer internazionali nella creazione dei loro  prodotti. La combinazione di tecniche e stili diversi, l’uso di materiali naturali, l’altissima qualità, ed  una estetica allegra e colorata rende i loro prodotti unici nel panorama mondiale e molto apprezzati  anche nei paesi nordici.

The collection designed by Tumar for Hands on Design represents a fusion of distant lands and  cultures. Founded in 1998 in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, the Tumar art group aims to  preserve and provide international exposure to the traditional arts and craft production of the  Kyrgyz people. Working with more than 200 artists and local craftsmen, it uses modern,  environmentally-friendly production techniques to create a range of high-quality craft products. The  central element of the group’s output are fabrics and objects in pure wool felt, revisited in a modern  key by artisans who are heirs to generations of nomadic craft traditions, applying a model of  sustainable production to cater to a global market.The collaboration organized by Tumar for Hands  on Design sees emerging Kyrgyz designers and contemporary Italian designers come together to  produce a series of new objects in pure wool felt. The result is a collection of everyday objects  (poufs, lamps, bags, containers, and accessories) imbued with the poetical force of ancestral  talismans (the actual meaning of the word “tumar”), but reimagined for an urban setting. Carrying  echoes of the colours of the earth and the shapes of Kyrgyzstan’s rolling mountain plains, and with  simple, essential forms that show off the high level of craftsmanship and flawless technical  execution, these are long-lasting, timeless contemporary design pieces for new urban nomads.
